Sample Master® LIMS at Precision Analysis:
Precision Analysis’ initial goals for purchasing a LIMS were to upgrade to an improved system of tracking samples along with their associated quality control data as well as to improve the report functionality by moving away from report creation through an Excel-based solution. They also required a better system for equipment and personnel tracking combined with the above in order to help with NELAC and A2LA accreditations. After evaluating several different LIMS systems, Precision Analysis determined that ATL’s Sample Master® LIMS met all of their needs and purchased the system. The following Sample Master® modules streamline and automate sample management as well as strengthen procedures for QA/QC and reporting at Precision Analysis: Sample Tracking, Data Entry, Sample Scheduling, QA/QC, Electronic Data Transfer, Chemical Inventory, Resource Management, Customer Relationship Management and Maintenance.
Sample Master® LIMS has allowed Precision Analysis to make significant improvements in all of the goal areas they started with. Their sample and result tracking has been much easier to manage with Sample Master® LIMS. Training personnel on its use has been considerably easier than their previous system because of the logical flow of information and intuitive interface within Sample Master® LIMS. In addition, Sample Master® is tightly integrated with the Microsoft Office Suite. This means there is less of a learning curve as Sample Master® is very similar to other Microsoft Applications, and also has the built-in capability to directly export/import data to Excel, Word, Access, and several other standard formats (with permissions).
Precision Analysis has also found significant improvements in their data quality control and tracking. Duplicates and matrix spikes are now associated with batches and appropriate samples and the data can be reviewed and utilized in real-time whereas previously they were performing the QC, but it was not immediately evaluated. Now, they can review data and make improvements to processes, which is facilitated by Sample Master® LIMS. Also, the ease of tracking samples and looking up past data has been a huge benefit. The picklists that hold sample names are a great tool for when a customer calls up and quickly wants to know results or find past reports for a particular sample.
Since Sample Master® LIMS supports the import of analytical data from a variety of analytical instruments, the laboratory has parsers set up between a Dionex IC with cation and anion capabilities and two Shimadzu GCs. Import functionality has reduced transcription errors and has resulted in enhanced data quality, time and resource savings.
