LABS/Q

Requirements
Modern laboratories generate and process lots of information. An increasing number of legal and commercial standards make additional demands on personnel and laboratory equipment. Nowadays it is essential to use computer based information systems like a LIMS (laboratory information and management system) to guarantee an optimal work flow. Information flow includes communication with the customer and his software applications. The workflow is affected by various specifications and results. Therefore the LIMS has to enable the customer to communicate as well as document his work flow and its optimisation.

Solution
LABS/Q® is successfully established in various areas of process industries. It is used by power and water authorities for quality control, in R&D as well as in contract laboratories and in Environmental Protection Offices. It is employed in laboratories with a workforce between 5 and over 500 users, partly at different locations and in different languages.

Functional Range
The standard software package of LABS/Q® meets varying requirements. It covers all work processes starting with the development and validation of analytical methods, analytical quality control, routine tests during quality and in-process control, environmental monitoring up to stability studies and contract analysis. LABS/R supports work processes for developing and optimising chemical compositions and recipes. It helps to build up statistical test plans from the primal recipe over the basic recipe to the production recipe.

Technology
LABS/Q® employs CASE tools such as an application generator, an object oriented LIMS library, tools for screen design/modifications and for generating a user specific HELP utility. All these provide the experienced user with a WYSIWYG prototyping and development environment. Customization of LABS/Q® for specific customer requirements can be achieved very efficiently without programming. The modular structure of LABS/Q® fulfils a number of requirements making it easily adaptable to specialized clients needs. Based on the standard LABS/Q® data, processes and screen masks are modelled by CASE tools to fulfil requirements for customer specific LIMS projects. All customer specific modifications and enhancements have just to be described. Then the application generator and the object oriented library automatically transform this model into the customer specific LIMS realization. The main advantages of this concept are simplified programming, shortened project cycle time and programming error reduction. This leads to LIMS implementations that guarantee secure program execution, efficient maintenance, consistent documentation and user friendliness. LABS/Q® uses fully relational database technology based on the ORACLE Relational Database Management System (RDBMS). Operating on the most popular midrange database management system means benefiting from all of its features and capabilities. ORACLE uses SQL (Structured Query Language) as its database language which is the ANSI standard language for relational databases. Using LABS/Q® also means that you can take all the advantages and benefits from all of ORACLE's product options and support services. The LABS/Q® system together with ORACLE's RDBMS use client/server architecture allowing users to distribute their computing workload across the network (Ethernet, Token Ring). This also helps to protect your current investment by integrating existing environment which might consist of different types of hardware. The LABS/Q® end users can take advantage of the power and productivity of their personal computer. Implementing such a client/server environment the system can easily grow by adding clients to the network without directly impacting the server.
