LABS/QLABS Connect

Requirements
Depending on the environment and the technical equipment information very often has to be exchanged with other systems. In case e.g. an SAP system is used, master data, registration of tests as well as result feedback (sometimes in combination with usage decision) have to be exchanged via a certified interface. For example, if chromatographic tests are often done it makes sense to assign the test information for sequence processing to CDS and to report test results to the LIMS. This data transfer should be as automated as possible. The state of information transfer must be traceable at any time. Furthermore the interfaces must support general standards.

Solution
LABS/Q® offers various interfaces to exchange information like master and variable data with other systems. Further interfaces are provided for systems like SAP QM IDI, Waters Empower, Varian Galaxie, Satorius and Mettler Scales. For further information see the download page or contact iCD.

Functional Range
To meet various requirements three types of interfaces have been implemented.

SQL-Interface (COM-LABS)
Information can be exchanges bidirectional with this SQL table based interface. It can be used if the system to be connected can exchange information with SQL databases like e.g. ODBC. It is used with CDS systems and ERP-/MES systems (SAP, Aspen Tech, OSIsoft, Scalarvis).

XML-Interface
The Extensible Markup Language XML (standardised by the W3C consortium) has evolved as the standard to supply information universally. For this reason the original format DCI has been expanded by XML. This interface can exchange information via e-mail. It is often used if systems cannot communicate directly. IBM MQ series is supported as middleware.

IP-Interface
LABS/Q® provides the General Tool Interface GTI as TCP/IP server. Via this server a bidirectional program-to-program handshaking can be build up. It is also possible to access other computers in the net. This interface is often used to connect "simple" measuring devices like scales and so forth.

SAP-Interface
ABased on the standard LABS/Q® interface and the interfaces provided by SAP a universal interface has been developed. It has the advantage of an individual user configuration. Based on this universal interface iCD. GmbH offers an interface certified by SAP (report no. 690/22359/226836/Walldorf dated February 7th, 2006) a preconfigured tp PLM/QM (QM IDI). Based on this QM IDI interface the subsequent data flow can be displayed exemplarily:

Total Control by SAP QM
LABS/Q® as a subsystem has the task to transfer data from the SAP inspection lot to the measuring instrument. It provides manual and automatic result collection, computes result values (often with reference to standards), then tests them against methodical limits and transfers the results to SAP QM. For automatic connection only master data for the inspection method (test instruction) as well as test and measuring equipment are necessary. All other information is provided by SAP.

SAP QM as leading System
Master data like materials, customers/contractors, characteristics and specifications are provided by SAP and complemented by LABS/Q®. Submissions (inspection orders) based on these master data can be opened in LABS/Q® independent of SAP QM. In case SAP announces an inspection lot an automatic synchronisation starts. Afterwards the results can be transferred to SAP QM with or without usage decision. More tests e.g. from in-process-control, stability storage, environmental or development test can be processed via LABS/Q®.

LABS/Q® as leading System
Only master data like materials, customers, contractors are transferred and updated from SAP. All relevant information for the tests is administered in LABS/Q® and if necessary is transferred to SAP. The inspection lot by SAP only serves as an announcement - all relevant data for testing are taken from LABS/Q®. After release only a usage decision is transferred to SAP.

Scalarvis-Interface
SCALARVIS® is an integration platform for process and energy data by InfraServ Gendorf (www.scalarvis.de). Based on the standard interfaces a system integration is feasible, which allows to evaluate results together graphically (quality control cards, process patterns) as well as in table form.

OPC-Interface
Together with InfraServ Gendorf an universal OPC-interface (OLE for Process Control) has been implemented. This interface can be used as a client as well as a server. It is specifically made for information exchange with process control systems (PCS) like Siemens PCS 7 or Yokogawa.

CDS-Interface
Modern chromatography systems CDS are used for chromatographic tests (GC, HPLC, IC etc.). The CDS interface was created in order to connect these systems in the best possible way to LABS/Q®. The complexity of this interface naturally depends on the potential of each CDS solution. We will be glad to give you information whether this interface is an option for your CDS - please contact us. The following description is based on the current extent.

Sample Announcement
If a submission is registered in LABS/Q® for which chromatographic tests are intended these chromatographic tests will be automatically provided for the CDS.

Sequence provision in/for the CDS
A sequence of samples is created for the CDS by a function which is provided in the interface and which can be executed from the CDS. A list of announced samples can be accessed. In case the instrument option is active a check is made during processing the sequence if the chosen instrument system is qualified for the method chosen. A check is also made to see if a counter sample or a standard has to be done. Based on this sequence measurement is performed on the CDS. Further measurements can be done depending on the specification of the measurement system.

Information Transfer to LABS/Q®
Master data like the material, customer/contractor and specifications are determined by SAP and complemented by LABS/Q®. Submissions (inspection orders) can be opened and processed independently from SAP QM in LABS/Q®. If SAP announces an inspection lot an automatic synchronisation starts. Afterwards the results can be transferred to SAP QM with or without usage decision.
